“Caramelo”, as he is known on social media, has become a national sensation.

Spotted on a roof after a Brazilian TV channel filmed the flood zone from a helicopter, “Caramelo” became a social media sensation, and 24 hours after his discovery, a rescue operation was launched after pressure from across the country.

Caramelo, a horse that had been balancing on two narrow strips of roof for days, was safely lowered down by rescuers and veterinarians.

“We found the animal in a weakened state,” firefighter and rescue leader Tiago Franco said.

The rescue operation was broadcast live via helicopters, and Brazilian YouTube star Felipe Neto sent updates to his nearly 17 million followers on X. After the successful operation, the celebrity offered to adopt Caramelo.

“Caramelo, Brazil loves you!!! God, what a happiness,” he wrote.

Heavy rains and flooding in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul killed at least 107 people last week. According to state authorities, 136 people are reported missing, and more than 230,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. There are no official figures on the number of dead or missing animals, but local media estimate the number to be in the thousands.
