The far-right National Union, which emerged as the first party in the first round, slipped to third place this time.

According to the preliminary results announced by Le Monde, no alliance was able to reach the 289 deputies needed to ensure a majority in the 577-member National Assembly.

The leftist alliance New Popular Front won 182 seats, President Emmanuel Macron’s Alliance for the Republic won 168 seats, the far-right National Union Party won 143 seats, and the Republican Party won 60 seats.
After announcing the first results, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is expected to submit his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron today.
