Jens Lærke, spokesperson for the UN agency OCHA, said that the situation in Rafah is the worst imaginable for civilians: “This morning is one of the worst mornings we have seen in the war because we have received news that the Rafah border crossing has been closed. It is tough to find a place, and there is no place for 100,000 people in the areas where you are told to flee.

According to Jens Lærke, the Rafah border crossing is one of the most used crossings to get emergency aid into Gaza. It is, therefore, a vital artery for getting emergency aid through.

“If this artery closes, it would be a real disaster,” Lærke said.
