World’s largest dinosaur track found in Fujian

Researchers from China University of Geosciences and Yingliang Natural Sciences Museum stated that at least 8 types of dinosaur tracks were found in previous years.

On Monday, May 6th, Chinese scientists announced that they had discovered very large tracks of a type of two-toed dinosaur in the Lincheng area of Fujian, a southeastern province of China. Researchers from China University of Geosciences and Yingliang Natural Sciences Museum stated that at least 8 types of dinosaur tracks were found in previous years.

Of these, 12 belonged to a type of two-toed dinosaur known as deinonychosaur. The size of five of these 12 fossil tracks, which were 36.4 cm in length and 16.9 cm in width in some cases, led researchers to propose a new type of dinosaur in the scientific literature named Fujianipus Yingliangi based on differences in toe sizes.

Professor Xing Lida from China University of Geosciences noted that the discovered tracks are not only the largest dinosaur tracks in China but also in the world. According to the tracks, it is estimated that Fujianipus was about 5 meters long and had a height of about 2 meters at hip level.
