Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, issued the instructions after the bridge in Zhashui County in Shangluo City collapsed at around 8:40 p.m. on Friday due to flooding caused by heavy rain.
Twelve people had died, and 31 were missing as of 12 pm on Saturday.
Xi said the immediate priority is to carry out rescue operations, search for the missing and make every effort to minimize casualties, and called for assistance to the families of those affected by the floods.
